“What’s happening to me?”
Those were the words I cried out—to myself and to God—as fear suddenly overwhelmed me.
It was July 28th, 2012. What started as a normal day quickly turned into one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. My heart was pounding, my head was spinning, and as I drove, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I genuinely thought something was seriously wrong.
“Jesus! Jesus!” I cried out in desperation.
That moment marked the beginning of a long and difficult battle with anxiety.
Before that season, I loved life. I was pursuing ministry, attending seminary, and felt physically healthy overall. But there were underlying factors I hadn’t paid much attention to—stress, diet, long hours of sitting, and eventually high blood pressure.
After being placed on medication, things didn’t feel quite right. Then came the panic attacks.
What followed was not just physical—it became emotional, mental, and even spiritual.
At times, anxiety would linger for days or even weeks. It felt like I was constantly under attack.
During that time, I sought help through counseling and spiritual guidance. One moment stands out clearly.
While praying over me, a spiritual advisor said:
“God is saying He will give you your life back.”
At the time, it felt hard to believe. But that promise stayed with me.
My healing didn’t happen overnight. It was a process.
But one of the most powerful turning points came when I was encouraged to do something simple:
Choose Scripture and speak it during moments of anxiety.
I selected several Bible verses and began to:
In those moments, I would say:
“Lord, I give this to You.”
Little by little, something began to change.
The same anxiety that once felt like a giant began to shrink.
What once overwhelmed me started to lose its power.
Through God’s Word, prayer, and daily surrender:
What used to feel like a constant storm became something I could face with confidence in God.
Today, I can say with gratitude that God fulfilled that promise.
Not only did He restore me—He strengthened me.
What I went through was difficult—but God used it to shape me into a more faith-filled and resilient person.
